Tip for your trip to Argentina

The official currency is the "Argentinaian peso". There are 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 pesos notes and 5, 10, 25 and 50 cents coins. Also 1 and 2 pesos coins.



The 100 pesos notes also comes in the following designs, with equal validity as that shown above.


  • The currency exchange is performed in authorized Banks and Exchange Agencies. When arriving to Ezeiza International Airport, you can find and office of the National Bank where you can proceed with the exchange procedure. Additionally, in some hotels may change dollars and euros to Argentinaian pesos. In some shops and restaurants, payments in dollars may be acceptable at the “official” exchange rate.   • International credit cards as American Express, VISA, Diners and Master Card are widely accepted.
  • The electric current is 220 volts and 50 Hertz. If your electric apparatus only take 110 volts, you must obtain an adaptor at specialized stores. You should also bring an international adaptor for plugs in the wall.
  • A common habit is to leave a tip at bars and restaurants. They are not deduced from the bill (like in other countries). The typical and customary tip is 10% for restaurant and bar services.
  • Argentina has a good amount of medical facilities, both public and private. However, hiring travel insurance with medical coverage is always a good idea.
  • As for safety, precautions to take are similar to those to be taken into account in any other city in South America , especially in big ones: do not flaunt valuables objects, beware of cameras and money, and avoid going out at night in areas that local do not recommend, even by car.

Opening Hours:

  • Banks and Exchange Bureaus: Mondays to Fridays from 10.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m.
  • Business Offices: generally from 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. and from 2.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m.
  • Stores: in the big cities from 9.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m., although in the outskirts and the provinces they generally close at midday. Saturdays, from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.
  • Cafés, cake shops and pizzerias: open most of the time except between 2.00 and 6.00 a.m.
  • Restaurants: lunch is served as from 12.30 p.m. and dinner as from 8.30 hours. Fast-food menus are served in many restaurants at all times.
