WORKSHOP:
Values of Inland Waterways
“Waterways – more than Navigational Channels”
PIANC Working Group 139
Tuesday 8th September
9:00 am – 1:00 pm
Topics:
This workshop will present the results of the activities of PIANC Inland Navigation Commission Working Group 139 “Values of Inland Waterways”. The main task for the group was to give an overview of potential additional uses and benefits of navigable waterways, to analyze them in terms of a number of pre-determined relevant aspects, of the physical appearance, and of the aesthetic impact of waterways, and to show what are quick wins and where are potential conflicts. Linking the results of these investigations to best practices, it was required to gather examples of effective combinations of the diversity of values. The course will provide an overview of the draft report, which was completed at the end of 2014, and seek input on additional avenues to explore.
